Buick Canada begins WeChat promotion

Automobile brand Buick Canada has begun an online promotion via China-based social media service WeChat. According to the company, it is the first Canadian automotive brand to have a presence on the service. The company's marketing efforts on the site are aimed primarily at Chinese Canadian consumers. The Buick WeChat account will offer information about promotions, events and product launches. The company also plans to offer the ability for consumers to book a test drive or communicate with a dealership.

"Buick has a rich brand history in China, as one of the most premium luxury brands that sells over a million cars every year," said Mike Speranzini, brand director at Buick Canada. "Canada brings together people of all kinds of backgrounds who rely on a diverse set of tools to stay connected in their everyday lives. With so many Chinese Canadians active on WeChat, this social media platform was a natural choice for us to continue the Buick brand affiliation here in Canada."

As part of this promotion, Buick Canada will also be conducting a series of promotion in shopping malls in Toronto and Vancouver timed to coincide with the upcoming Chinese New Year. These installations will take place on Jan. 28 and will feature vehicles specially painted in the shade of red associated with the Year of the Rooster. Buick is a division of General Motors.
