COA AND MCDONALDS UNVEIL NEW LOGO

McDonald's Restaurants of Canada and the Canadian Olympic Association unveiled a new logo for the COA this week. McDonald's also introduced its new Olympic hat series which featureS the COA logo and come in four colour and style combinations. The commemorative hats were made available on July 19 and will be sold until August 18 (or while supplies last). Fifty cents from each hat sold will go to the COA to help send Canadian athletes to the 1996 Olympic games in Atlanta. McDonald's wants to raise about $1 million for the athletes. The logo, designed by Canadian artist Barry Smith, incorporates three distinct elements: the five rings of the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic torch, and a maple leaf. The COA supports Canadian Olympic sports, along with coaches and athletes, through scholarships, grants and counselling. McDonald's and its Canadian franchisees own and operate over 800 restaurants. McDonald's launched an ad campaign this week which features its Olympic Ambassadors, Silken Laumann and Anne Pelletier. Officials at McDonald's were unavailable to comment on the campaign. McDonald's agency is Cossette Communication-Marketing of Montreal.
