Shomi to expand service

Online streaming video service Shomi will expand its service this summer to reach an increased number of Canadian consumers. The service will be operated on a direct-to-consumer basis, rather than as an extension of an existing cable television subscription. The company is promoting the new offer with a website at <http://www.shomi4everyone.com>, along with social media activities. Shomi, which is a joint venture of Roger Communications and Shaw Communications, launched in November 2014. It offers access to a collection of television series and movies that can be accessed through television set-top boxes, tablets, smartphones, video game consoles and other devices.

"The beta has been a huge success and we're excited to now bring it to all Canadians," said David Asch, senior vice-president and general manager of Shomi. "We've taken the time to work out the kinks so members can enjoy a great user interface and viewing experience. We know more Canadians want the bleary-eyed but oh-so-satisfying experience of an epic entertainment binge, and that they want the freedom to choose how they access the service. This exciting next step gives them that opportunity."
