XEROX TO LAUNCH SCANNING SOFTWARE
By Adnews Staff
U.S.-based Xerox, The Document Company will introduce scanning software to North America in December that is integrated into the Windows 95/NT desktop. Called Pagis Pro 97, the program allows users to capture, use and organize color documents and incorporate them into the Windows Explorer system. It can scan, copy, fax, find, print and drag-and-drop scanned documents to desktop applications. Pagis Pro brings together three technologies: PerfectScan, TextBridge Pro and Verity's Topic. PerfectScan captures and processes text and images independently. The finished document is then compressed and stored in a very small file. TextBridge supports document recomposition, allowing all the elements of a scanned document, including pictures, tables, multiple columns, headers and footers, to be preserved. Verity's Topic is a search engine that allows users to locate any document on their system. In Canada, advertising plans to promote the product are still being worked out. It will be created by Young & Rubicam of Toronto. Environics Communications of Toronto is handling PR. In the U.S., the product is being promoted using trade publications. Those ads are being created by Y&R of New York.
