Dairy Farmers of Canada ready cheese rolling festival

The Montreal-based Dairy Farmers of Canada will conduct its seventh annual "Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival" promotion in Whistler, BC on Aug. 16. The festival will include cheese rolling races, costume contests, product sampling and product sales. Participants will race down a hill in pursuit of an 11-pound wheel of Courtenay Cheddar cheese from Natural Pastures. The event will consist of seven men's and four women's races. The winner from each round will compete in the finals. The event will also include children's uphill races categorized by age. The winners will receive the cheese wheel and a Whistler season ski pass for two. The winner of the costume contest will receive a $500 gift voucher from Marketplace IGA.

The initiative also includes in-store promotion and a contest conducted in association with grocery store chains Sobey's national and with Marketplace IGA in British Columbia in the lead-up to the festival. Winners of the contest will receive a trip for two to the event. Promotional support also includes a website at <http://www.canadiancheeserolling.ca>.

"Cheese-loving Canadians and visitors from all over the world eagerly await the Canadian Cheese Rolling Festival year-after-year, and Dairy Farmers of Canada is thrilled to bring it back again," said Sandra Da Silva, assistant director of external communications for the organization. "With all the many activities the festival has to offer, it's a great event for the entire family and a fantastic way to shine a spotlight on Canadian cheese."
