CitizenshipCounts.ca website launches

The Toronto-based Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants has constructed a new website at CitizenshipCounts.ca intended to help young people study for the Canadian citizenship test and to learn about being a Canadian citizen. Visitors to the site earn virtual badges as they complete educational tasks. The badges can be shared with friends via Twitter or Facebook. The site also keeps track of high scores on its online citizenship quiz. An accompanying smartphone application for Android and Apple devices has also been released. Funded was provided by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

"Many immigrant and refugee youth are unsure of what it means to be a Canadian citizen, or are unaware of their citizenship status," said Debbie Douglas, executive director of the council. "Complications arise if they try to travel or get charged with a crime. We are confident that CitizenshipCounts.ca will help change that trend."
