Vancouver Humane Society conducts anti-calf-roping campaign

The Vancouver Humane Society has begun an advertising campaign encouraging the Calgary Stampede to remove calf-roping from the event on humanitarian grounds. The ad broke on July 4 in Calgary newspaper Fast Forward Weekly. The creative depicts a child petting a calf along with the tagline, "Have a heart for animals." "We hope the Calgary Stampede will open its eyes to the anger and disgust many people feel about calf-roping," said Vancouver Humane Society spokesperson Peter Fricker. "Dropping this event would go a long way to showing the Stampede really does care about animal welfare."
