STARBUCKS TO START BREWING IN CALGARY
By Adnews Staff
Starbucks Coffee Company of Seattle will be opening several stores in the Calgary area, with the first outlet starting up next month. Two more are scheduled to open in November, with additional locations planned for early 1997. The first location will be situated within a Chapters bookstore. Each Calgary store will donate any less-than-fresh coffee beans to a non-profit organization in the city. The company will also be supporting a selection of community events as part of its opening festivities. Starbucks first entered the Canadian market in 1987 when it opened in Vancouver. Advertising plans for the Calgary coffee shops have not been determined, but Starbucks uses San Francisco agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. Harrison, Young, Pesonen & Newell Inc. of Toronto buys the Canadian media.
