Canadian Tourism Commission promotes new online services

The Canadian Tourism Commission has introduced a new website and mobile application called "The Explore Canada Like a Local," intended to provide travelers with trip advice from local Canadian residents. Users can access information by theme, by destination or through lists created by travelers. Users can also create a customized travel list which they can share with others. Smartphone users can use this list as a guide and to share content through the website and via social networking services. The service will first launch in the United States, followed by staged rollouts in the UK, France, Germany, Mexico and Australia later this year. It will be promoted with print and online advertising, as well as public relations and social media activities and partnerships with American Express and Lonely Planet. "Explore Canada Like a Local was inspired by the success of our Locals Know campaigns and the insight that travelers inherently want to exchange travel information with fellow travelers," said Gloria Loree, the commission's executive director of global communications. "This dynamic new tool allows for locals and travelers to Canada to serve as advocates, and lets potential visitors be inspired and gain valuable, authentic information on itineraries in Canada." The service was developed by Tribal DDB Vancouver in association with Xomo. OMD Vancouver is handling media buying.
