BrainTrust Canada begins Sponsor My Head contest

BrainTrust Canada, a non-profit organization dedicated to brain injury prevention and rehabilitation based in Kelowna, BC, has begun a national online contest called "Sponsor My Head." The initiative is aimed at youth above the age of 13 and is intended to encourage the use of helmets. The contest was developed by Taxi Canada of Vancouver, along with Smak, Fatbox and Menzies Printers Kelowna. It is begin conducted in association with Nutcase Helmets. Five hundred participants will receive a free helmet and be asked to submit a video of themselves wearing it while engaging in activities such as skateboarding, cycling and in-line skating. The grand prize winner will receives $5,000, a limited edition Nutcase helmet and an honorary position as a Nutcase team rider. The runner-up will receive $2,000, while the third-place finisher will receive $1,000. All three will also receive a Go Pro helmet camera. The first phase of the contest will run until Aug. 17. Contest promotion includes pavement stencils directing viewers to the Sponsormyhead.com website, as well as outdoor posters and in-store materials. "Sponsor My Head is a contest with a conscience," said Magda Kapp, director of communications for BrainTrust. "The largest age group for risk of brain injury is youth, especially 13- to 24-year-olds, and we believe this is who this contest will appeal to. The emphasis is on fun and creativity, not risk, and the idea is that many of these youth are already doing their sports but not wearing helmets. We want to add the helmet while giving them an incentive to wear it, the chance to win money."
