BC salmon farmers begin campaign

A group of British Columbian salmon farming companies has begun a campaign intended to educate consumers about the industry. The group, which consists of Marine Harvest Canada, Mainstream Canada, Grieg Seafood, Ewos and Skretting, has established a website at BCSalmonFacts.ca to provide information about farmed salmon. The campaign, developed by DDB Canada, also includes television and print advertising, as well as social media activities and public relations. Media planning and buying was conducted by OMD Vancouver. "Conversations about BC's aquaculture industry are inundated by myths being advocated as facts," said Lance Saunders, managing director of DDB Canada. "For the most part, only one side of the passionate debate has been heard: those opposed to farmed salmon. DDB Canada was hired to help workers from the salmon farming industry accurately communicate scientifically based facts about salmon farming amidst a clutter of misinformation." The campaign will run in British Columbia into the spring.
