WWF Canada readies Pin It for the Planet campaign

WWF Canada will conduct an awareness campaign called "Pin It for the Planet" from May 31 to June 6. The campaign will encourage Canadians to avoids the use of cars in favour of transit, walking or cycling for daily travel. The initiative will also encourage Canadians to pin their car key to their clothing to signify their action and to raise awareness among others. The campaign, based at the WWF.ca website, also includes a contest component. "Taking transit, walking, or cycling are healthy and convenient alternatives to taking the car," said Gerald Butts, president and CEO of WWF Canada. "No matter where we live in Canada, we can all find ways to reduce our dependency on cars, to save money, improve our health, and help the planet. If every Canadian left their car at home just one day a week, we would save about 4.86 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent of taking about 800,000 cars off the road for a year." Public relations for the campaign are being handled by Environics Communications.
