Facebook to alter privacy policy

Social networking website Facebook.com will modify its privacy policy in order to meet recommendations from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. The commissioner has spent a year reviewing the site, which has not hitherto satisfied Canadian privacy laws. The proposed changes, which will be implemented over the next year, will give Facebook users more transparency and control over the information they provide to third-party applications such as games and quizzes. "These changes mean that the privacy of 200 million Facebook users in Canada and around the world will be far better protected," said Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart. "This is extremely important. People will be able to enjoy the benefits of social networking without giving up control of their personal information. We're very pleased Facebook has been responsive to our recommendations."
