QUEBEC SITE OF FRENCH AD FEST
By Adnews Staff
For the first time ever, Quebec City will be the site of the international competition for advertising from 14 French-speaking countries, called Mondial de la publicité francophone. Previously, when the event was held in Canada, it took place in Montreal. The theme of the Oct. 5-6 gathering is "Marque ou crève" (Brand or die), a reference to the much-discussed tendency of companies to self-destruct by allowing their brand names to lose value by cutting out advertising and relying on promotions to keep short term sales figures up. For those connected to the Internet, the Mondial has several webpages containing information on the event and showing the best of last year's show. The address is http://www.isa.uiavai.ca/Le Mondial.
