Unilever readies Dove Global Workshop Day

Unilever will conduct an international initiative on Feb. 29 in the name of its Dove brand. During the initiative, called "Dove Global Workshop Day," Unilever staff members will participate in workshops in schools and youth organizations intended to raise self-esteem among young people, particularly girls. The workshops will work to counter stereotypical views of beauty and body image by revealing the techniques used by makeup artists, photographers and computer technicians to produce these views. In Canada, one-hour workshops will take place for students aged seven to 14 at a number of schools in the Greater Toronto Area. The company will also host a workshop today at a middle-school in Vancouver with actress Rachael Leigh Cook, intended to encourage Canadians to hold workshops of their own. The company is also distributing a DVD aimed at potential hosts and constructed a website at <http://www.dove.ca/facilitators>.
