CLEARLY CANADIAN LAUNCHES DRINK WITH LUMPS
By Adnews Staff
Vancouver-based Clearly Canadian Beverages is launching a drink you can eat in the U.S next week. Called Orbitz, the clear drink has flavored gel spheres suspended in it. The company spent a year developing the liquid-suspension technology which keeps the edible jelly balls from settling to the bottom. Orbitz will be promoted with sampling and Internet ads. Promotions, such as giving away T-shirts, will be done by Characters Design Group of Vancouver, which also did the package design. Characters is a division of Palmer Jarvis Communications of Vancouver. Clearly Canadian is hoping to bring the drink to Canada by the end of the summer. The edible jelly in the drink is made with gellan gum, which is approved for use in Canada in solid foods but not in beverages. The company is currently waiting for regulatory approval.
