VIDEO ARCADES TO OPEN IN CINEPLEX THEATRES

Sega GameWorks will be putting video game centres in movie theatres belonging to Toronto-based Cineplex Odeon Corp. Over the next three years, the video game company will open 24 theatre lobby arcades, mostly in the U.S. The first two will open this summer, one in Calgary and the other just outside Houston, Texas. At the Calgary location Cineplex will also build a restaurant and an Internet Café where patrons can surf the Web from their tables. The two companies will share revenue from the video games. Advertising for the arcades will be handled in-house by Cineplex. Sega GameWorks is a joint venture between video game maker Sega Enterprises of Japan, and two Hollywood entertainment companies, MCA Inc. and DreamWorks SKG.
