Rogers Publishing of Toronto has acquired a minority interest in lifestyle website Sweetspot.ca. The site, which was launched in Toronto in 2004, now operates additional sites in Montreal and Vancouver. A Calgary site will launch in the fall. The sites, which are primarily aimed at women, offer daily email newsletters providing information on trends, fashion and activities in each city. The company also recently created a weekly newsletter aimed at mothers called Sweetmama.ca. “This is an exciting business with fabulous opportunity,” said Marc Blondeau, senior vice-president of consumer publishing at Rogers. “Sweetspot.ca has great growth potential at both the local and national levels and strengthens Rogers’ leadership position in the Canadian women’s category.” The financial details of the deal are unknown.
