A.C. NIELSEN LAUNCHES WEB SITE

A.C. Nielsen of Markham, Ont. set up its own Web site this month. The company that is developing a system to measure advertising audiences on the Internet set up its own site to gain an understanding of the Web community. Nielsen wants to get an inkling of how the Web will affect its own business of measuring audiences for electronic media, and learn how Web visitors differ from the average consumer. At its site, Nielsen explains what it does to get a list of the top 10 TV shows of the week. Visitors can compare their personal rankings of TV programs against the rankings of other Web surfers. They can view recently released TV commercials and learn the names of the advertisers, the themes, release dates, lengths and TV stations the spots are airing on. There is a trivia game and statistics on the buying habits of Canadian consumers. Visitors to the site can even work on a case study of a new product launch. They can make advertising plans, decide whether to increase or decrease production, and see how their moves affect sales. In addition, there are regularly updated surveys on the site such as the Canadian Internet Survey and the Computer Product Index. Nielsen's Web site address is <http://www.nielsen.ca>.
