COHEN LAUNCHES U.S DIRECT MAIL CAMPAIGN

Toronto agency Cohen Direct is making fun of U.S. computer maker Gateway 2000 in a U.S. direct mail campaign launched earlier this month for Cyrix Corp. of Richardson, Texas. The campaign uses two different pieces of mail showing a cow (representative of Gateway computers) first standing, then being squashed by a Cyrix 6x86 computer. One piece is a roll-fold brochure. The other is an interactive die-cut. The ads targets Gateway because it is the number one computer maker that sells directly to the user, the same way Cyrix sells its computers. Cyrix claims its line of 6x86 computers are the world's fastest Windows 95 PCs. Cohen Direct, a division of The Cohen Group of Toronto, was hired for Cyrix's North American direct marketing business last August.
