ALBERTA PROMOTES AGRICULTURE

Ottawa and the Alberta government, along with private industry organizations, have jointly funded an effort to make city dwellers in the province appreciate their country cousins. The campaign broke last week, using TV, radio and billboard advertising, as well as public relations. The idea is to show how agriculture contributes to the economy, as well as how farmers are using modern technology and taking steps to preserve the environment. The ads were created by Fieldstone Marketing & Public Relations of Calgary. One billboard features Menard flowers, which are grown in southern Alberta and used to make French perfumes. Another shows Italian pasta being made with Alberta wheat. The campaign was launched in response to a 1992 province-wide survey which showed that urban Albertans didn't know very much about agriculture in their province.
