LABATT SELLS BEER.COM
By Adnews Staff
Labatt Breweries of Canada has sold the <http://www.beer.com> Web site to Playcentric International of Oakville, ON. Nigel Miller, director of public relations for Labatt, said, "We were able to take Beer.com to where it is today, the number one men's e-zine site. Playcentric will take it to the next level." The site offers sports fantasy games, footage of musical events, directories of concerts and bars and information about beer such as history, trivia and brewing techniques. Miller said Labatt will continue to provide content to the site through what he described as a sponsorship position as opposed to an ownership position. The financial terms of the sale are not known. Beer.com was created in 1999 by Interbrew, Total Sports, Internet Sports Network, Webpersonals.com and Core Audience Entertainment. Labatt Breweries is part of Belgium-based Interbrew. Playcentric is an online retailer which sells music, movies and games.
