COMPAQ BACK WITH INTEL
By Adnews Staff
Compaq Computer Corp. of Houston, Texas is putting "Intel Inside" on its boxes again. The computer maker will also incorporate the slogan in its advertising, and may take part in joint trade show efforts and public relations activities with U.S.-based Intel Corp. Compaq and Intel have agreed to a non-exclusive patent license which allows Compaq to use Intel technology and vice versa. Compaq says it pulled out of the Intel Inside program two years ago because the computer maker decided it needed to put the emphasis on its own name instead of the name of the company that makes the microprocessors for Compaq machines. Compaq says it had just entered the consumer market and didn't have a strong brand image with consumers. That situation has now changed. The Compaq has consistently been one of the best selling PCs in the world. Data Corp. rated Compaq as tops in U.S. computer sales for 1995.
