COCA-COLA UPDATES OLYMPIC COMMERCIAL
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Coca-Cola Ltd. has released an updated version of its Olympic television commercial to reflect Team Canada's gold medal wins in men's and women's hockey. The "He shoots. He scores." spot was created by MacLaren McCann of Toronto and ran nationally on major networks in English Canada during the games. The ad shows a boy stick-handling a Coca-Cola can into a hockey net, yelling "He shoots. He scores." Various hockey scenes tied together by the phrase are shown. The ad concluded with the copy "If we time it right they'll be able to hear us in Salt Lake City." In the updated version, a score clock counts down the final seconds of play while an announcer shouts "Canada wins the gold medal." A series of scenes of Canadians cheering the win is accompanied by the copy "If they didn't hear us before, bet they can now."
