PETSTUFF GONE, PETSMART COMING
By Adnews Staff
Canada is losing one U.S. pet supply chain, but gaining another. After being in the Canadian market for less than a year, Petstuff is retreating back to the U.S. The pet supply is closing the four Canadian locations because sales aren't reaching expectations. Petstuff of Roswell, Georgia was recently bought by Petsmart of Phoenix. According to a story in The Globe & Mail, Petsmart will open Canadian stores in eight to 10 months. Officials at Petsmart were unavailable to comment on how advertising will be handled when it does enter Canada. Advertising for Petstuff was done in-house. The superstore chain has stores in the Toronto area offering pet foods and supplies, and pet related services. When each store opened, they had grand opening festivities that included face painting and balloon art. Petsuff also had an animal adoption program. It had originally planned on opening 12 stores in Ontario by the end of 1995.
