TVA ASKS FOR TWO MORE MINUTES
By Adnews Staff
Montreal-based Groupe TVA is asking the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission for two more minutes of advertising per hour, according to a report in The Globe and Mail. The French-language private television network cited growing competition from specialty channels and other competitors in its request to the CRTC, the report said. The additional two minutes would increase the network's current 12 minutes of paid advertising to 14 minutes per broadcast hour. The network is before the CRTC for the renewal of its broadcasting licence. The Commission is also reviewing the takeover of TVA's parent company, Groupe Vidéotron, by Quebecor.
