YAHOO AND 7-ELEVEN LAUNCH CONVENIENT NEW PROMOTION

Global Internet company Yahoo Inc. and convenience chain retailer 7-Eleven have come together for the first time and launched a North American marketing campaign. The promotion, which begins Monday and runs until the end of the month, will see consumers who head to any one of the 5,700 7-Eleven convenience stores in Canada and the U.S. and purchase a 454-ml slurpee receive a yellow and purple co-branded Slurpee cup. The official slurpee flavour for the promotion is Minute Maid Grape. The co-branded Slurpee cups are highlighting Yahoo's free online greeting card service, Yahoo Greetings. Online, consumers can also send a "buy one, get one free" Slurpee drink coupon to a friend with the four-week promotion featuring a new specially designed online greeting card each week complete with the Slurpee drink coupon. According to 7-Eleven category manager, John Ryckevic, while the chain of convenience stores has always been a popular destination with teens for drinks and snacks, 7-Eleven is hoping to expand its teen audience through this promotion with Yahoo and the recent introduction of a new line of teen fashion items. Murray Gaylord, director of Yahoo Fusion Marketing, said working together, Yahoo and 7-Eleven, marry the online and physical world to deepen its connections with consumers. The promotion is being supported with window banners, in-store signage and online advertising.
