CAAST TO BOOST EFFORTS

Toronto-based Strategic/Ampersand will be getting out the message that software piracy is against the law. The public relations firm was hired without a review this week to handle public relations for the Canadian Alliance Against Software Theft. CAAST decided to switch its business from Continental Communications of Toronto because it wanted a PR shop that was already handling some software business, president Frank Clegg told Adnews yesterday. This way the organization could step up its efforts by "adding on some CAAST actions when the agency is doing a campaign for its other software clients." Strategic/Ampersand does PR for Oracle Corporation's Canadian headquarters in Mississauga, Ont. and Novell Canada of Markham, Ont. CAAST represents Apple Canada, Autodesk Canada, Claris Canada, Delrina (Canada) Corp., Eicon Technology Corp.,Lotus Development Canada Ltd., Microsoft Canada, Novell Canada, Quarterdeck Office Systems Canada and Symantec Canada.
