Microsoft, Ladies Learning Code ready workshop series for girls

Microsoft Canada has begun an initiative in association with Toronto-based not-for-profit organization Ladies Learning Code to conduct a national series of technology education workshops for girls between the ages of eight and 13. The free one-day events will take place in 19 cities in 2015, with the aim of teaching girls computer programming. These cities will include Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary, Waterloo, Halifax and St. John's. Microsoft is participating in this program through its international YouthSpark initiative, which works to provide education to young people.

"Microsoft is proud to partner with Ladies Learning Code to provide young girls the opportunity to learn and develop skills in computer programming and technology," said Dennis Lopes, director of legal and corporate affairs at Microsoft Canada. "These workshops will provide girls across Canada the opportunity to engage with a technology in a manner that we hope will ultimately inspire them to pursue careers in the field of computer science."
