CANADA PAYPHONE CORPORATION AND METROMEDIA TEAM UP

Vancouver-based Canada Payphone Corporation, the exclusive provider of AT&T Canada branded payphones and telephone booths, has entered into an alliance with the Toronto-based in-door advertising company Metromedia Inc. Under the terms of the agreement, Metromedia will market the framed advertising space on the AT&T phones to national and regional advertisers. The available space will be marketed under the Payphone Media Network, a new division of Metromedia. Currently there are 3,000 AT&T payphones and telephone booths across Canada in a variety of locations including shopping malls, airports, hotels, theatres, restaurants, gas stations and education institutions. Another 3,000 are expected by the end of the year. Richard Gartner, president and CEO, Metromedia, said some advertisers have signed on but would not reveal who. He said advertising on the 7 by 11 inch frames is expected to begin rolling out mid-May or early June.
