SPIEGEL COMING TO CANADA

Toronto-based FCB Canada is launching a national campaign in January for Spiegel Inc.'s entry into the Canadian market. Spiegel, of Downers Grove, Illinois, is a high-end catalogue marketer that has been in business for 135 years. The company is a Sears for the carriage trade, with 60,000 items listed in its catalogue. It will use print, billboard, inserts and direct mail to announce its arrival in Canada. Optimedia of Toronto will handle media buying. FCB won the account late last month in a competition with one other agency. FCB was chosen because "they did a lot of research and they came prepared," media relations manager Joy Villalino told Adnews last week. "They had a real game plan without one coming from us."
