UPDATE: TIME CANADA HONORS POWER OF PRINT
By Adnews Staff
Advertisements by healthcare communications firm Sudler & Hennessey of Montreal and Grey Canada of Toronto have been selected by Time Canada to be included in the magazine's "Power of Print" program. The program, which began with the magazine's July 12 issue, invites advertising agencies across Canada to submit a one-page advertisement on any subject not for commercial benefit. Time Canada prints one submission each week with a column running alongside the ad profiling the creative team behind the work. The four-colour, full-page ad from Sudler Hennessey depicts how "evil can spawn when freedom of expression wanes". The headline is a quote from Edmund Burke and reads "Evil will flourish when good men and women stand by and do nothing." The submission, from Eric Capel, David Goldfarb and James Gall, portrays an active mind giving birth to an evil thought. The ad will appear in the August 16 issue of Time Canada.
Grey Canada's submission, which is designed to raise awareness of homelessness, will appear in the October 25 issue. The one-page, full-colour ad shows a matted kitten alone on a grimy, city street. The copy reads, "Alone. Hungry. Homeless. Buddy needs a place to live. Oh yeah, so does the cat." After further examination of the ad, a homeless person is seen crossing the street, his shopping cart filled with all he owns. The creative team includes Ed Lea, Mary Secord and Eden Robbins. Submissions for the program will run until the end of the year or until all ads have been printed. The "Power of Print" campaign was first introduced in the United States in 1969.
