BLOCKBUSTER SNAPPING UP POKEMON
By Adnews Staff
Toronto-based Blockbuster Canada is teaming up with Vancouver-based Nintendo of Canada Ltd. in a Pokemon Snap promotion. On now and running until the holiday season, Blockbuster locations across Canada will have a Pokemon Snap station specially designed to print stickers of characters featured in the Pokemon Snap video game for the Nintendo 64 game console. In the game, players take on the role of "Ash," whose goal is to photograph wild Pokemon living on Pokemon Island. Players purchase a Pokemon Snap smart card for $3.99 at Blockbuster stores and, using their own game, a rented game or a pre-loaded game, print out a sheet of 16 stickers featuring four different Pokemon snapshots. To support the Pokemon Snap promotion, English- and French-language advertisements are running in Kids Tribute, The Magazine Not For Adults and Planete publications. A four-week English Canada television campaign is also supporting the promotion. Advertising for Nintendo of Canada Ltd. is done by Leo Burnett of Toronto. Blockbuster Canada operates over 350 locations across the country and is a subsidiary of entertainment company Viacom Inc.
