SAULT STE. MARIE PROMOTING ITSELF INTERNATIONALLY

The city of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario is using a federal international marketing program to promote itself and lure new investment and business to the border community of 80,000. The city received funds from the Program for Export Market Development for Investment, with which it will promote itself in a CD-ROM and print information package that will be distributed to contacts in Italy, Portugal and Finland. The two year program has a budget of $234,000 from federal, municipal and private sources. Private sector partners include: Sault Ste. Marie's Royal Bank, Public Utilities Commission, Great Lakes Power, Economic Development Corporation and the Airport Development Corporation. In addition, the city is running a series of advertisements in the National Post newspaper next month to attract interest and investment. The marketing program begins next week when representatives from Portugal will visit the city.
