RETAILERS OFFER PHANTOM MENACE MERCHANDISE ASAP

Zellers Inc. of Brampton, Ontario is attempting to be the first retailer to offer Star Wars fans merchandise from the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace movie. The retail chain of more than 340 locations across Canada will be opening its doors the moment the merchandise is available for sale. At approximately 12:01 a.m. on May 3, six selected Zellers stores across Canada in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ottawa, Ontario, Scarborough, Ontario, Edmonton, Alberta, Calgary, Alberta and Richmond, British Columbia will open their doors to offer the Phantom Menace line-up of merchandise which includes action figures and vehicles, Lego, watches, caps and T-shirts. Those stores not participating in the midnight openings will offer the same merchandise during regular store hours. At press time, officials at Toy-R-Us had not confirmed whether or not any of its locations would be opening at midnight. Officials at Wal-Mart did not return phone calls to confirm its plans. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace opens May 23.
