HOME HARDWARE IS PREPARING CANADIANS FOR THE Y2K BUG

As the new millennium approaches and computer technicians continue to prepare computers for the switch from 1999 to the year 2000, dealer owned and operated, Home Hardware Stores Ltd. are also preparing Canadians for the unexpected with its Emergency Preparedness list. Originally created by Home Hardware in response to the Ice Storm in Eastern Ontario and Quebec last year, the list contains over 300 items that were needed by those Canadians to survive the storm. Beginning in September, items on the list will be flagged in the company's national flyer. Independent dealers at over 900 locations across Canada have been provided with copies of the list that break down into categories such as: food preparation, heating, tools, electrical and away from home. Many of the items on the list are used on a daily basis by Canadians. "While many Canadians will get peace of mind from preparing for Y2K using our EP list, it's important to note that Home Hardware believe Canadian businesses and our government agencies are doing their part to ensure this issue is properly addressed," Home Hardware Stores Ltd., vice president of merchandise and marketing, Ray Gabel said. Home Hardware is a cooperative of hardware, building supply and furniture stores based in St. Jacobs, Ontario. Advertising for Home Hardware is done by The Saffer Group of Toronto. PR is handled by Edelman Public Relations of Toronto.
