KOKANEE CELEBRATING ITS BIRTHDAY WITH A LOOK AT THE PAST

Kokanee beer is turning 40. To celebrate the occasion, the Columbia Brewery will begin airing fourteen past television commercials advertising the beer. The ads will be seen during prime-time beginning tomorrow. One of the brand's earliest ads, first aired in 1985, portrayed the Sasquatch as a British Columbian icon. Other ads featured: Brew the Dog (1987), Kevin the Brewmaster (1993), the Chick Magnet (1994), Rene Dahinden, a B.C. Sasquatch hunter, (1997) and the Kokanee Mountain Patrol (1998). Advertising for Kokanee is done by Bryant, Fulton and Shee Advertising of Vancouver. The birthday celebrations will conclude at the Kokanee Summit, a festival to be held during the August long weekend at the Columbia Brewery in Creston, B.C. Beer drinkers will have a chance to attend the event by participating in a contest through specially marked cases of Kokanee starting next month. Kokanee has been brewed in Creston since 1959 following the amalgamation of four other Kootenay -area breweries in Nelson, Trail, Fernie and Cranbrook.
