FAIRCHILD BUYING TORONTO RADIO STATION

Vancouver-based Fairchild Holdings Ltd. of Vancouver is buying Toronto radio station CKYC 1430 AM from Telemedia Inc. of Montreal. The deal is subject to the approval of the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission. Last year Telemedia bought 590 AM and moved its all-sports format The Fan to that position on the dial. In approving this acquisition, the CRTC required Telemedia to sell 1430 AM, which Fairchild intends to transform to a multilingual station. Telemedia publishes 19 consumer magazines and operates 26 radio stations in Quebec and Ontario. Fairchild operates two TV stations and one radio station, all broadcasting multilingual programming.
