THE GLOBE AND MAIL GETS NEW MANAGEMENT

Phillip Crawley has been appointed president and chief operating officer of The Globe and Mail. He will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the company. Most recently Crawley was managing director of The Herald in New Zealand. He has also worked at Times Educational, Higher Educational and Literary Supplements of London, England, as editor-in-chief at The South China Morning Post in Hong Kong and editorial director of Asia Magazine. In addition, Crawley has served as northern editor of The Daily Telegraph in London and editor of The Journal in Newscastle. Roger Parkinson, publisher and CEO of The Globe and Mail has been given the additional title of chairman. He will focus on the strategic development of the company, the newspaper and other business units, as well as externally on customers, acquisitions, partnerships and the market presence of the newspaper.
