REGIONAL EXPANDS SUBSCRIBER BASE IN ALBERTA

Regional Cablesystems of Edmonton has increased its subscriber base by 1,500. The company has bought three Alberta-based cable operators for $1.5 million. The three companies are: Prairie Cable TV Ltd., Progressive Cable TV Ltd. and Coronation Cable TV Ltd. Prairie serves over 900 customers in the town of Hanna.. Progressive and Coronation each serve about 300 subscribers in Consort and Coronation. The three transactions are still subject to approval by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Regional recently bought Western Canadian Communications, adding 4,400 subscribers to its list. "These acquisitions are a continuation of Regional's non-urban cable market acquisition strategy," vice-president and general manager Fred Hosker says in a release. Regional currently provides cable television service to approximately 116,000 customers in Newfoundland, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia.
