BREWERY PULLS AD AFTER GOVERNMENT COMPLAINTS

Boon Rawd Brewery of Thailand has found itself in hot water with some of its provincial governors over a TV ad for its new low-budget beer called Leo. The commercial featured a governor raising his glass in a toast to an empty banquet hall. He had enjoyed the beer so much he hadn't realized the wedding guests had left. The ad led to Leo beer being known as "the governor's beer." The ad was created by Dentsu, Young & Rubicam of Thailand. Boon Rawd marketing deputy manager Chatchai Viratyosin says most consumers didn't take the ad literally. Provincial governors said the ad spoiled their image.
