MTS REVISES FIRST RATE PLAN, LAUNCHES A NEW ONE

Manitoba Telecom Services of Winnipeg has revamped its First Rate long distance savings plan and introduced a new daytime savings plan. Under the newly structured First Rate plan, customers will continue to be able to call anywhere in Canada on evenings and weekends for 10 cents a minute, or on Saturdays for nine cents-a-minute, but now they will pay a maximum of $19.95 per month. Under the First Rate All-The-Time plan, MTS has reduced its daytime calling rates in Canada and the U.S. by up to 50%. Daytime calls in Canada will cost 14 cents a minute, while daytime U.S. calls will cost 21 cents-per-minute. Both plans will be available next week. They will be promoted using print ads created by Palmer Jarvis DDB's Winnipeg office. TV ads, statement stuffers, free standing inserts and Internet ads may also be used. MTS is a member of the Stentor alliance.

MTS is the fifth telephone company to begin offering unlimited long distance calling plans this summer. Others are: Bell Canada, Telus Corp., Sprint Canada and AT&T Canada.
