CAMPAIGN ENCOURAGES SAFE, FUN SEX

Julius Schmid of Concord, Ont. telling Canadians that safe sex can still be great sex. The company recently launched a humorous ad campaign to promote its Durex Shiek and Durex Ramses brands of condoms using TV, print and electronic billboard ads, as well as radio promotions. In addition, the campaign will use wall murals, posters in bathrooms and ads on pool table tops. Sampling, sponsorships and appearances by Richard, the seven foot Durex condom, will also be used. The campaign was created by MacLaren McCann of Toronto. GCI Group of Toronto is doing PR. The ads feature animated characters and objects such as a sperm, a rocket with a feather, a cactus without thorns and a worm. In one ad a pink cartoon sperm shoots through a winding tube to the accompaniment of upbeat drumming music. Then, he slows down, the music stops, he coughs and a giant condom slams down on his head.
