TOURISM EXPECTED TO GROW
By Adnews Staff
The Canadian Tourism Commission expects to play host to a record number of U.S. visitors this year, and says the trend will continue over the 1998-2002 forecast period. The CTC projects that the number of U.S. tourists will rise by 2.8% during 1998, mainly because of the strong American dollar and a good U.S. economy. During the first quarter of the year, the number of U.S. visitors increased by almost 10%. The CTC also reports that the number of visitors from France will grow 1%, while German tourists will continue to stay away from Canada until the year 2000, when overnight visits will jump by 2%. The CTC promotes the growth and profitability of Canada's tourism industry by fostering partnerships between government and industry.
