HOME DEPOT MOVES OUTSIDE NORTH AMERICA

The Home Depot of Atlanta is expanding into Puerto Rico. The home improvement retailer plans to open outlets in Puerto Rico over the next three to four years, six of which will be near the capital of San Juan. Each store will be about 115,000 square feet in size, and there will be a 15,000 square foot outdoor garden area as well. All stores will stock up to 50,000 items such as lawn and garden products and building materials. Every outlet will conduct free home-repair clinics each week. In addition, The Home Depot will sponsor the Puerto Rican Olympic team. for the Year 2000 games in Sydney, Australia. The Home Depot currently operates 670 stores in the U.S. and Canada. Its first stores outside North America will open in Santiago, Chile in July and in Puerto Rico in September.
