CLEARNET TO SELL PHONES ONLINE
By Adnews Staff
Clearnet Communications Inc. of Toronto says it is the first wireless phone company to sell its personal communication services over the Internet. The company launched the service this week, which allows customers to purchase PCS phones and accessories, such as cases, chargers and car kits on Clearnet's Web site. Until now, the company only sold its services through a toll-free phone number, or through retailers and dealerships, as well as through university and Clearnet PCS store locations. Advertising for Clearnet is created by TAXI Advertising & Design of Toronto, while Media Experts of Montreal does media buying and Mosaic Direct of Toronto handles direct mail. Clearnet launched its PCS service in the greater metropolitan areas of Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa-Hull, Montreal, Toronto and Ontario's Golden Horseshoe region in October 1997.
