SONY TO PROMOTE WEBTV

U.S.-based Sony Corp. plans to promote its WebTV Plus Internet Terminal in Canada using co-op ads with dealers and corporate ads at sporting events. The co-op ads will be created by individual dealers, while the corporate ads will be handled in-house. PR will be done by Cohn & Wolfe of Toronto. Sony introduced its Web TV terminal to the North American market this week. The set-top box will allow subscribers to the WebTV Plus Network system to watch TV, surf the Internet and send and receive e-mail messages through their TV sets. The service will enable users to view a week's worth of TV programming and will notify them when their favorite show is on. In Canada, users will be able to view Canadian news headlines, weather and community news, as well as view Canadian content sites. The WebTV Plus Network system was developed by U.S.-based WebTV Networks Inc.
