PRICE COSTCO EXPANDING
By Adnews Staff
Price Costco Canada is planning on expanding its Central and Eastern Canada Price Club network in the next six months. The company plans to open eight new warehouse stores in Quebec, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces and two distribution centres in Montreal and Toronto. It also intends to renovate six outlets in Quebec and Ontario. Price Costco sells both wholesale and retail to businesses and consumers who pay an annual membership fee which allows them to shop for discounted items ranging from food to electronics. About 40% of the company's members are small and medium-sized businesses, and between 60% and 70% of its business comes from that category. The company will be adding new products and services such as baked goods and fresh meats to attract new members. Currently, Price Costco has over two million members. U.S.-based Price Co. and Costco Wholesale Corp. merged two years ago. Together they operate 250 warehouse clubs in Canada and the U.S. With the expansion, the Canadian end will have 52 outlets.
