FILM FESTIVAL MOVES INTO HONEYMOON CAPITAL
By Adnews Staff
The Toronto International Film Festival is organizing the first annual Niagara Film Festival to be held in Niagara Falls, Ont. from June 5 to 14. The event will feature movies starring female film icon Marilyn Monroe. In addition to the Monroe retrospective films, the event will also present classic horror flicks, disaster epics and selected Canadiana films. The movies will be screened in off-beat locations, such as a wax museum, to add to the overall mood of the festival. Other highlights will include gala parties, a Marilyn look-a-like contest and area attractions such as the Butterfly Conservatory and the Casino. The Niagara Film Festival will be promoted using local newspapers, magazines, trade ads and virtual billboards beginning in April. The ads will be placed in communities within 120 mile radius of the festival including Cleveland, Buffalo and Southwestern Ontario. The ads will be created by Niagara Gateway Agency, with offices in Toronto and Niagara Falls. In addition, the festival is looking for sponsors for the event. Packages range in price from $2,000 to $100,000. The event is expected to attract 30,000 filmgoers. Niagara Gateway is handling sponsorships as well.
