ADVERTISERS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF CLINTON'S SEX SCANDAL

Marketers have been quick to jump on the recent White House scandal involving President Bill Clinton and former intern Monica Lewinsky. In London, Unilever has played on the potency of its male deodorant brand Lynx in an ad showing a garbage can outside the White House that clearly contains a used can of the product. The ad suggests (tongue in cheek) that using Lynx makes the wearer more desirable. The ad was created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty of London. Olympus Digital Cameras is also focusing on Clinton's problems. An ad uses the headline "The Olympus Digital lets you crop out anything that ruins your image." The copy is alongside one picture of Clinton and Lewinsky embracing and another with Lewinsky cropped out. The European campaign is promoting the Olympus C-1400L, which allows pictures to be downloaded onto a PC and changed via advanced digital technology. The campaign was created by Lowe Howard-Spink of London. Clinton has been accused of having an affair with Lewinsky, then telling her to lie about it. The charges are currently being investigated.
